The world premiere of La Joia, the Bad Gyal documentary, will open the festival on October 23
Today, we presented the complete program for our 22nd edition, which will be held from October 23 to November 3 at the Mooby Aribau Cinemas in Barcelona. The festival will feature over 60 music documentaries, and you can now purchase festival passes.
The world premiere of La Joia, chronicling the rapid rise of Bad Gyal to generational icon, directed by David Camarero will kick off 11 days of cinema and music with one of the most exciting programs in the festival’s 22-year history.
The first lineup announcement included heavyweights like Blur, Die Antwoord, Devo, The Black Keys, Simple Minds, Brian Jones, The Mars Volta, Genesis P-Orridge, and Swamp Dogg. Now, they are joined by the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, indie legends Pavement, country icon June Carter, folk-rock singer Ani DiFranco, the neomelodic urban music phenomenon Liberato, and iconic rappers like Notorious B.I.G., Method Man, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg.
Other additions include the 70’s hard rock band Steppenwolf; legendary jazz pianist Erroll Garner; revolutionary avant-garde jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman; films by the post-industrial group Coil; and an impressive roster of artists who made history at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Quincy Jones, Nina Simone, and David Bowie, to name just a few.
