This intimate documentary about Love of Lesbian, one of the most influential indie pop bands in Spain over the last two decades, offers an introspective look at the connection between music, identity, and belonging.

After the discovery and restoration of footage lost for more than 80 years, we delve into the surprising and moving story of Aurora Rodríguez Carballeira. In the recovered interviews, conducted in Madrid’s women’s prison, Aurora recounts her grand life project: to conceive a perfect woman who would regenerate both women and Spanish society. A chilling narrative of high emotional intensity. A disturbing and real story, with all the classic elements of suspense cinema.

Rito tells the story of Tomás, a women’s hairdresser in his hometown of Utrera, who is also a traditional flamenco singer. Caught between these two worlds, his days are spent styling hair, partying at night, and taking care of his sick wife. A series of encounters with other artists trigger a catharsis, forcing him to make a crucial decision: to sell his hair salon to record a groundbreaking album that explores new dimensions of flamenco.

Various experts reflect on the role of human beings in relation to the world and human nature in all its manifestations, as well as on the origin and end of our existence. Through dance, art, and thought, we embark on a cosmic journey alongside Omega and Beta, two mysterious characters we gradually uncover throughout the film. The documentary has been selected for several international film festivals and will have a global distribution.

From Dance to God

A journey in search of individual and collective identity through dance, music, thought and spirituality. A point of intersection that is always in motion and where binomials such as body and mind, ecstasy and reason or faith and science, will be the main actors in an intense and vitalist choreography, full of powerful stories and revealing thoughts. ESCOGIMOS MUERTE

Verónica Rodríguez | Spain and Cuba | Documentary short film.

In Cuba in the 1990s, during the so-called ‘Special Period’, punks were persecuted by the Castro regime and rejected by society. With the arrival of HIV, the government established sanatoriums, turning them into refuges for those suffering from the disease. Escogimos muerte explores how geeks, marginalised and rejected, chose to self-inoculate themselves with HIV in order to gain access to these places, where they believed they would find refuge, food and the freedom to live their love of punk music, unaware that they were entering a ‘luxury prison’.

The documentary was presented at the Guadalajara Film Festival (Mexico) in 2019 and premiered on the Netflix platform as a Netflix Original on July 10, 2019. The documentary was the third most-watched on Netflix Spain in 2019 and the seventh most-watched on Netflix Mexico in 2019.
