The wild wild adventures of the legendary psychotropic punk band Butthole Surfers—or how two accounting students from Texas recruited a small army of misfits to set the alternative scene of the ’80s and ’90s on fire. Amid psychedelics, pranks, chaos, and deranged live shows, they achieved the unthinkable: shaping the course of American alternative rock and even sneaking onto the charts. With striking interviews, outrageous animations and puppets, unseen footage, and surreal recreations, the film reveals both the onstage madness and the incredible personal stories of a band of brilliant weirdos who made excess, strangeness, and noise their way of life.
