Joana Mallwitz – Momentum, by German director Günter Atteln, premiered in Spain as part of In-Edit Empordà, receives the Audience Award.
In-Edit Empordà, part of the Festival de Torroella program, grows and consolidates interest in music documentary films in its second edition. Yesterday, Tuesday, August 19, the second edition closed with Sergi Cameron‘s documentary Niños somos todos (2019) about the flamenco singer Niño de Elche, who, at the end of the screening, participated alongside the director of the documentary in a discussion in which they explained the creative process and anecdotes from the filming.
Before the screening at the Cinema Montgrí, the Audience Award, chosen by a vote of the viewers, was presented to Joana Mallwitz – Momentum (2024) by German director Günter Atteln, which was screened on Tuesday, August 12, and whose presentation at In-Edit Empordà marked its premiere in Spain. Atteln said: “Audience awards are always the best, because in the end, the most important thing is that you, the audience, like the film, and for that reason it is a great honor and a pleasure to receive this award. Thank you very much!”
In total, In-Edit Empordà attracted 1.823 viewers, representing an occupancy rate of 91.15%.
The second edition of In-Edit Empordà screened 8 documentaries from July 1 to August 19, every Tuesday at the Cinema Montgrí in Torroella. The documentaries were accompanied by complementary activities, such as discussions, debates, and talks with the participation of directors or some of the protagonists, and two concerts related to the themes of the documentaries were also held. “This second edition of In-Edit Empordà has closed with growth in all areas. The parallel activities held beforehand at the Museu Palau Solterra-Fundació Vila Casas brought the festival closer to the public and generated interest before the screenings,“ said Montse Faura, director of the Festival de Torroella. She added: ”We were honored to have directors who came to present their works and participate in discussions, adding interesting value. The Empordà branch of the In-Edit Festival has confirmed that it has a diverse audience that includes regular attendees of the Festival de Torroella, film buffs, and people who come out of curiosity. The pre-screening discussions sold out and generated interest in learning about the creative processes behind the documentaries.”
Filmmaker Sergi Cameron, deputy director of In-Edit Empordà, describes this second edition as a success, which motivates us to continue next year with the third edition and to keep growing little by little and bringing in international guests. In this second edition, we have doubled the number of screenings and brought in guests for almost all the sessions, which has made the audience very participatory in all the discussions and talks prior to the screenings, which served to contextualize the documentary.” Cameron points out that, unlike other branches or the In-Edit Festival in Barcelona itself, In-Edit Empordà has programmed the documentaries in relation to the Festival de Torroella, a feature that, according to Montse Faura, was already applied in the first edition. Montse Faura points out that the incorporation of filmmaker Sergi Cameron as assistant director of In-Edit Empordà “has generated complicity and acted as a prescriber in the audiovisual world. We have invited members of the Catalan Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who spend their summers in Empordà and who have attended the screenings.”
The second edition of In-Edit Empordà has benefited from the collaboration of the Fundació Vila Casas, Cinema Montgrí, and Moritz beer. Their support has been key to the growth of the project in 2025.
We have already begun work on the third edition of In-Edit Empordà, which will incorporate new features in the selection of documentaries, parallel activities, and spaces for meeting with creators, maintaining the link with our loyal audience and expanding the community that has been created around the festival.
