A fast-paced journey into the bohemian heart of the 1960s Lower East Side to revive the subversive spirit of The Fugs, the avant-garde band that pushed the boundaries of free speech. Founded by poets and artists Ed Sanders, Tuli Kupferberg, and Ken Weaver, this New York group fused folk, rock, political satire, and wild humor, directly inspiring bands such as The Mothers of Invention, MC5, and Country Joe and the Fish. Labeled in FBI files as “the filthiest and most vulgar thing the human mind could possibly conceive,” The Fugs remain an indispensable lesson in uncompromising freedom.
