At the heart of Norway’s legendary and male-dominated black metal scene, three women with no prior musical experience make a three-year pact to form Witch Club Satan. Their goal: to harness noise and darkness to channel the hidden power of women, exorcise their trauma, and resurrect the spirit of ancient witches. This is a visceral and mesmerizing portrait of the band’s inception, whose meteoric rise quickly spirals out of their control. Facing a hostile environment and their own contradictions, the protagonists fight to avoid burning out in their own flame. The documentary bridges past witch trials with today’s reactionary wave in a tempestuous declaration of empowerment and sonic magic.
