Born to Be Wild: The Story of Steppenwolf

Oliver Schwehm
2024 | Canada, Germany | 100 min.

Its appearance in the movie Easy Rider launched the iconic “Born to Be Wild” to the status of a generational anthem and propelled Steppenwolf as one of the most emblematic and mysterious hard rock bands of the late 60s and early 70s. This is the tumultuous rise and fall of a group of young men from Toronto, Canada, two of whom were from post-WWII Germany, as they navigated the psychedelic underground of California, biker gangs, legal battles, clashing personalities (singer John Kay and bassist Nick St. Nicholas are comically at odds), and the social unrest of the era behind a pair of tough guy sunglasses.

Cast: John Kay, Nick St. Nicholas, Michael Monarch, Mars Bonfire, Cameron Crowe, Alice Cooper, Jello Biafra, Klaus Meine, Taj Mahal, Bob Ezrin, Dale Crover
