Examining his colossal archive, Glen E. Friedman revisits more than 40 subjects from his photography—pioneers of skateboarding, punk, and hip-hop—to talk about what drove them in life and why their art forms continue to influence, inspire, and offer hope. Black Flag, Minor Threat, Public Enemy, Run-D.M.C., Beastie Boys, Ice-T, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys… it is a mouth-watering list. Crafted independently over the course of 12 years, and scored by Brendan Canty (Fugazi, The Messthetics), the film analyzes the deep motivations of the rebels who transformed urban art. Moving beyond a generational chronicle, it unfolds as a collective reflection on integrity and the value of creating works that are as enduring as they are incendiary.
