The International Music Documentary Film Festival continues to consolidate its national and international growth and announces a 2026 with the largest territorial expansion in its history. Throughout this year, the festival will be present in multiple cities and countries, strengthening its position as one of the leading platforms for showcasing music documentary cinema worldwide.
This expansion has begun with its presence at the Music & Cinema Marseille Festival and the celebration of the third edition of In-Edit Gijón, which started yesterday, establishing itself as one of the key venues within the national circuit.
The participation of the In-Edit Festival in Marseille has taken place in a collaboration with the Music & Cinema Marseille Festival and the Music for Film program at La Satis, which has developed Regards Croisés, an international film scoring residency bringing together students from five European institutions, including the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). Over ten days, participants worked on creating a collective piece, which was presented on April 2 in the form of a cinematic concert. The inclusion of ESMUC in this project stems from In-Edit Lab, the result of a collaboration initiated in 2025, thus consolidating new avenues of international cooperation in audiovisual and musical creation and fostering local talent.
In-Edit Gijón is taking place from April 7 to 12, celebrating its third edition and taking a significant step forward. The festival is expanding both its programming and the venues it occupies in the city, a growth that responds to the excellent reception from audiences in previous years and further establishes the event as one of the key stops on the national circuit.
The opening took place yesterday, Tuesday, April 7, at the Teatro Jovellanos, with the screening of El canto de las manos, directed by María Valverde, winner of the In-Edit Barcelona 2025 Audience Award. The festival has already sold out all its sessions and will host a heartfelt tribute this Friday to Jorge Martínez, leader of the band Ilegales and a prominent figure in the national music scene.
During this same month of April, the festival will be present, for the first time, in Uruguay, where it will hold its first edition from April 23 to 26, thus adding a new international venue and expanding its presence in Latin America.
As part of its international activities, it will also participate in the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FIC Guadalajara, Mexico) with the In-Edit Son de Cine section, from April 17 to 25. In May, the festival will also be present, for the first time, in Portugal, where In-Edit has opened a new branch and where it will host a presentation this year.
Through the end of the year, In-Edit will continue its national and international tour with editions in Brazil (June 11–21), Colombia (in the fall), Mexico (November 19–21), and Chile (in December).
It will also return this summer, for the third consecutive year, to the Empordà region, in collaboration with the Torroella de Montgrí Festival, further strengthening its ties with the territory and the local cultural network.
At the same time, the In-Edit On Tour project will continue to expand its reach through collaborations with institutions such as CaixaForum, with a presence in Madrid and Valencia, and the Instituto Cervantes, organizing screenings and activities in Athens, Los Angeles, London, and in seven Brazilian cities: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Salvador de Bahia, and Porto Alegre.
This period of expansion comes at a particularly significant moment for the festival, as it approaches its 25th anniversary in 2027. With a well-established trajectory and steadily growing international projection, In-Edit is approaching this milestone in excellent health while maintaining its global vocation. In this context, the addition of two new international venues is planned for next year.
With this momentum, In-Edit aims to reaffirm its commitment to promoting music documentary cinema and its ability to connect cultures and audiences through music and film around the world.
