A portrait of Luis Valdez, a key figure in Chicano culture who transformed social struggle into art. From his beginnings as a migrant farmworker in the fields of the United States and founder of the theater company El Teatro Campesino in the 1960s, the camera details the trajectory of a creator who made the leap to Broadway with the musical Zoot Suit and later directed the legendary feature film La Bamba—the Ritchie Valens biopic that broke ground in the Hollywood industry. Connecting those early milestones with today’s political challenges while maintaining an uplifting tone, this is an essential chronicle of memory, art as identity resistance, and the ability to pave the way for future generations of creators. Winner of the Audience Award at Sundance 2026.
