An immersion into Ireland’s new music scene, where a generation of young artists coming from punk, rock, hip-hop, and beyond revitalize folk to digest the traumas of the past. From rural regions to a Belfast still segregated by the “peace wall”, the film weaves together vibrant performances, everyday moments, and archival footage to explore post-colonial consciousness, language preservation as resistance, and the paradox of joyfully embracing the saddest songs in the world. With an understated staging that lets the landscapes and music take center stage, it stands as a deep and moving portrait of an island dreaming of a united utopia while striving to reconcile with its first 100 years of partial independence and navigate its contemporary identity. Winner at Locarno Film Festival’s Critics’ Week.
