NATIONAL PANORAMA

The discovery of previously unreleased tapes from the legendary Basque band of the 1970s and ’80s, Itoiz, prompts former frontman Juan Carlos Pérez to confront his own past. What follows is a cathartic journey that retraces the group’s beginnings as a progressive rock outfit in Mutriku (Gipuzkoa), through to its dissolution at the height of success—after a turn toward pop that Pérez still bitterly resents. Through disarmingly candid conversations with former bandmates—hovering somewhere between the real and the spectral—and evocative recreations with actors that transport us back to that era, the film becomes a lucid exploration of emotions: nostalgia, shame, sorrow, and pride.
