INTERNATIONAL OFFICIAL SECTION
A deeply moving portrait of one of the most prodigious and enigmatic voices of the ’90s. Through unseen footage and the memories of those who loved him—his mother, his partners, and his fellow travelers—the film traces the dazzling trajectory of an artist who embodied both sensitivity and rebellion. Grace, his only album, propelled him to the top as a rock artist with the soul of a crooner and the sensitivity of a folk singer, but also confronted him with pressures that proved hard to bear. Between flashes of unexpected humor and spine-tingling performances, the film explores the legacy of a musician who sought to escape the shadow of his father, Tim Buckley, to carve out a destiny of his own. Directed by Amy Berg—whose Janis: Little Girl Blue we saw 10 years ago—in co-production with Brad Pitt.
