In a Malaysia scarred by the repression of queer identities, Shh…Diam! (“Shut Up!”)—a punk band led by Faris, a trans man—raises its voice against enforced silence. Together with Yon and Yoyo, he turns music into both weapon and refuge, defying Muslim conservatism and laws that criminalize their very existence. Songs like Lonely Lesbian or I Wake Up Gay become irreverent, infectious anthems that crack open a system intent on erasing them. Between forced flights and stubborn acts of resistance, the film portrays a brave struggle for LGTBIQ+ rights—and for the simple right to sing who you are, without asking permission.
