INTERNATIONAL PANORAMA

A kaleidoscopic portrait of one of jazz’s great visionaries—poet, Egyptologist, activist, and philosopher—whose complex life and work defied all classification. Through mind-bending archival footage and the voices of musicians and historians, we witness how he transformed jazz into an interplanetary experience. With his Arkestra as his vessel, he expanded the boundaries of free improvisation, explored electronics, and forged an Afrofuturist vision that fused science and spirituality with a profound message about the Black experience in America. A rigorous, immersive study of the radical imagination of an artist for whom music was nothing less than a cosmic mission.

Cast: Sun Ra, Marshall Allen, Knoel Scott, Fred Moten, Brent Hayes Edwards, Nicole Mitchell, King Britt, Harmony Holiday, Marcus J. Moore.
