A dazzling mosaic of the life of a one-of-a-kind creator whose work you’ve probably heard thousands of times without even realizing it. Lyricist and melodist behind hits for Earth, Wind & Fire, Cyndi Lauper, and Sister Sledge, the theme song for Friends, and the Broadway musical The Color Purple, she turned everything into art: songs, furniture, sculptures, parties, even early experiments in the metaverse. With her ‘camp’ house-museum as the epicenter, Allee Willis was Los Angeles’s most eccentric, magnetic spirit. But behind the exuberance and her signature asymmetrical haircut laid the pain of not fully accepting herself. Allee began filming her life in 1950s Detroit and never stopped. This film is the realization of her wish that her “final art piece be someone putting together the trail I have left behind.”
