When the groove takes control! This is a syncopated journey to the heart of funk, beginning with its African roots, early soul, and jazz, before erupting into pure collective energy. With the unstoppable magnetism of James Brown, the psychedelia of Parliament-Funkadelic and Sly Stone, the audacity of Labelle, and the political fire of Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, funk became a universal language of freedom and resistance. Between electrifying riffs and infectious grooves, the film also shows how funk shaped the evolution of new wave and hip-hop, forever transforming popular music. Rhythm, sweat, celebration, and racial consciousness come together in a story where joy itself becomes a weapon for change.
