The festival will kick off with the screening of Broken English, by Ian Forsyth and Jane Pollard, a groundbreaking cinematic portrait capturing the artist’s final performance and interview.
Far from classic biopics, the film uses a fictional narrative device where British film stars such as Tilda Swinton and George MacKay play civil servants from the imaginary “Ministry of Unforgetting,” tasked with doing historical justice to her legacy. This visual gem is completed with conversations with friends like Nick Cave and striking musical covers by Courtney Love, Suki Waterhouse, and Beth Orton. It is a documentary that looks beyond the 1960s myth to delve into her unique voice, her capacity for reinvention, and her indelible legacy.
